Lumbarda, Korcula, Croatia, July 2011. Frano Milina Bire is one of the few enthusiasts who has recently put a lot of energy and passion into transforming the ancient Grk into a modern wine of high quality. With big plans to revitalize old vineyards high on the southern slopes above Lumbarda Korčula is laced with hidden coves, rolling hills and a walled medieval town. The green forests that cover Korcula inspired the Greek settlers to call the island Korkyra Melaina (Black Korčula). It is the largest island in an archipelago of 48, off the Dalmatian coast near Dubrovnik and has plenty of opportunities for scenic drives, hiking tours and boat trips to the outlying islands.
