Exploring the Croatian island of Korcula
Lumbarda, Korcula, Croatia, July 2011. Korčula is laced with hidden coves, rolling hills and a walled medieval town. The green forests that cover Korcula inspired the Greek settlers to call the island Korkyra Melaina (Black Korčula). It is the largest island in an archipelago of 48, off the Dalmatian coast near Dubrovnik and has plenty of opportunities for scenic drives, hiking tours and boat trips to the outlying islands.
