Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, May 2011. Colourful murals with militaristic images are the silent reminders of the sectarian violence. During The Troubles, the Greater Shankill and its residents were subjected to bombings and shootings by Irish republican paramilitary forces, the most notable of which was the Shankill Road bombing. The Shankill was also a centre for loyalist paramilitarism. The modern Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) had its genesis on the Shankill. Similarly the Ulster Defence Association, established in September 1971, also began on the Shankill. For decades travellers stayed away from the sectarian violence, but since the end of'The Troubles' more and more people start discoving the beauty of Belfast and the Antrim Coast Causeway.
