Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand, March 2007. The Doi Tung Royal Botanical Gardens were founded to create work for the hilltribes in an effort to keep them away from growing poppies for opium. The province of Chiang Rai offers a variety of activities, like mountain biking, trekking and elephant and longtail boat riding in a mountainous landscape carved out by big rivers.
