delta029.jpg | Clarksdale, Mississippi, Capital of the Delta Blues

Clarksdale, Mississippi, February, 2009. The Riverside hotel owned by Frank 'Rat' Ratcliff, has housed many famous blues musicians who came to Clarksdale to perform in the Juke Joints, and was also the place of death for Blues Singer Bessie Smith. She died after a car accident and was transported to what was then the local hospital. Clarksdale is home of the Delta blues tradition that started in the cotton field and the Juke joints by the black sharecroppers. Photo by Frits Meyst/Adventure4ever.com
